OCONEE NEWSFLASH PIONEERS ON THE MOVE
APRIL 2008
Dot & I; along with Betty and Sonny rode down to Baxley on the 19th. and attended Miss Leila’s 103rd. birthday party. We had a wonderful time and Miss Leila was simply beautiful as always. Many people showed up at the church recreation hall named for her sister Miss Lennie. I presented her with the first Chapter Pioneer pin given out in our Council and she wanted me to pin it on her so everyone could see it. She retired in 1963. Joanne says she is going to bring her to a meeting shortly.
The calendar is going to be pretty full for the next few weeks beginning with the VA fish fry on the 26th.,. We need at least 12 workers, and we can use more, to fill the plates, deliver to the wards, and serve those who come out to the recreation area to eat. We will feed over 300 residents. Be there around 1030 to 11. The following Saturday (May 3rd.) we will cook and serve at the Promise of Hope Golf Tournament at Riverview. We will be cooking from about 7AM until 1PM. We need to have 3-4 cooks and 3-4 preparing & serving. Our Charlie Roberts Memorial Golf Tournament is on the 17th. and as always; we will need plenty of help gathering door prizes, registering golfers, selling mulligans, witnessing on the hole for the hole in one, cooking, serving, and of course bring desserts. Pitts Toyota/Scion is putting up a new truck for us. If you know of any merchants who will donate or sponsor a hole; sign them up!
Our quest speaker for April are the directors of the “KINGS CLEFT HOME” FOR MENTALLY & PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED CHILDREN? This is a wonderful ministry that has been started in our area out on Union Grove Church Road in Wrightsville. A very caring couple has started this amazing facility.

We delivered blankets and bibs to the Shamrock Nursing Home after last month’s meeting. They were very appreciative. There will be more to come when Veloria and Marge finish making more.
